Ukrainian evacuated from the MV Hondius liner due to hantavirus detection on board

A case of hantavirus has been recorded on the cruise liner MV Hondius, prompting the evacuation of part of the crew. Among the crew members are citizens of Ukraine, one of whom is to be evacuated as part of an organized removal from the vessel.

Evacuation organization and crew status

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, one Ukrainian sailor is planned to be transported to the Netherlands via a special flight. Meanwhile, four other Ukrainians remain on the liner and continue to fulfill their duties until the vessel arrives at its destination port.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes that, according to the ship operator’s data, no symptoms of illness have been detected among the Ukrainians who remain on board. Upon arrival in the Netherlands, all four crew members will undergo mandatory medical examinations and will be quarantined in a specialized medical facility.

Coordination of actions and situation control

Ukrainian consular services are in constant contact with the citizen scheduled for evacuation and are organizing his further return home. The entire situation is under the control of the Department of Consular Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, as well as diplomatic representations in the Netherlands, Spain, and the consulate in Málaga.
