Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced that the Ukrainian government is considering the possibility of appealing to the International Monetary Fund for additional funding. This decision comes as international donors have currently provided only 50% of the approximately 75 billion dollars needed to cover the country’s budgetary needs for the next two years.

Financial challenges and prospects for a new IMF program
Ukraine is currently in a difficult financial situation due to the ongoing war. According to Svyrydenko, the existing IMF credit program, amounting to about 16 billion dollars, is in effect until 2027. However, due to uncertainty regarding the conclusion of hostilities, there may be a need to agree on a new financial package as early as next month.
“If the baseline scenario assumes that the war will continue next year, it is very likely that we will have a new IMF program,” Svyrydenko said.
Discussions with international partners
In addition to consultations with the IMF, the Prime Minister plans to discuss options for obtaining additional financial assistance with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in the coming days. This is intended to help Ukraine ensure budget stability amid current challenges.
