Ukraine has lifted travel restrictions for all women

Changes to the rules for crossing the state border in Ukraine have come into effect, which lift all restrictions on travel for women, regardless of their status or position. The new regulations apply to both female civil servants and other categories of women working in government bodies, local self-government, state enterprises, and courts.

Details of the changes in border crossing rules

The State Border Guard Service explained that from now on, women can cross the border without additional restrictions in accordance with the amendments made to Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 57. In particular, the government officially lifted restrictions for women traveling abroad based on decisions regarding official business trips by Resolution No. 623 dated May 15, 2026.

“As of today, changes to the Border Crossing Rules approved by Resolution No. 57 have come into effect, specifically regarding amendments to paragraph 2-14 of these rules. In particular, the government, by Resolution No. 623 dated May 15, 2026, has lifted restrictions on women regarding crossing the state border based on relevant decisions about official business trips,” the statement reads.

It is noted that the new regulation is already being applied by border guards during checks at crossing points.

Preconditions and features of the innovation

The Prime Minister, Yulia Svyrydenko, announced the lifting of restrictions for all women. She emphasized that this decision applies to all women working in the structures of state power, local self-government, the judicial system, as well as in state enterprises.

Previously, the State Border Guard Service informed about the simplification of exit procedures for certain categories of female civil servants. It should be reminded that since the beginning of the full-scale aggression of the Russian Federation and the introduction of martial law in Ukraine, there have been strict restrictions on the departure of men of conscription age from 18 to 60 years.

At the same time, the current rules stipulate that high-ranking officials, representatives of state authorities, as well as local council deputies can cross the border based on relevant decisions regarding official business trips.
