The trade war in the United States may gain new momentum as the White House plans to impose new tariffs on imported goods. In the coming weeks, the US administration may announce details about these tariffs, although specific goods and rates remain unknown at this time.

US President Donald Trump stated in an interview on May 16 that the American side does not have the capacity to negotiate with all trading partners, so new tariffs will be implemented unilaterally.
“Therefore, tariffs will be imposed without prior negotiations,” he emphasized.
Trump also mentioned that US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick will “send letters informing people” what prices they can expect for doing business in the United States.
The President noted that about 150 countries have expressed a desire to enter into trade agreements with the US, although specific countries were not named. “I think we will be very fair. But it is impossible to meet with so many people who want to see us,” he added during his visit to the United Arab Emirates.
It is worth noting that on April 2, Trump signed an executive order for reciprocal tariffs “worldwide,” which, according to him, promises to become “America’s golden age.” According to this document, the US intends to impose a 10% tariff on almost all imports, while even higher rates may be set for several countries with the largest trade deficits.
However, on April 9, the president unexpectedly announced a 90-day pause on new import tariffs for most countries, resulting in rates being reduced to 10%. At the same time, tariffs for China increased to 125%.
