Theta Capital Raises $175 Million for Investments in Crypto Startups

The company Theta Capital Management has successfully completed the raising of $175 million for its fourth fund of funds, focused on investments in blockchain startups. According to Bloomberg, this fund aims to support institutional investors looking to participate in early funding rounds through venture firms specializing in Web3.

Theta Capital began its investments in digital assets back in 2018 and currently manages assets totaling $1.2 billion. As part of its strategy, the fund plans to allocate capital among well-known players such as Coinfund, Polychain Capital, and Castle Island Ventures.

Venture Investments and the Crypto Startup Market

The managing partner of Theta Capital, Ruud Smeets, noted: “The key advantage of these firms is their ‘crypto pedigree’.

According to Smeets, this allows companies to adapt more quickly to market changes and demonstrate greater expertise in the field of cryptocurrencies. Investor interest in such funds is growing: according to Galaxy Digital, venture investments in cryptocurrency startups increased by 54% in the first quarter of 2025, reaching $4.8 billion. This indicates a resurgence of interest in the industry following a downturn in previous years.

Strategy and Plans of Theta Capital

Smeets emphasized that in today’s environment, investors demand real results from funds. Theta Capital plans to focus on active management and niche expertise, which can become a source of sustainable profitability. The company intends to continue expanding its portfolio of funds, concentrating on teams with experience in the crypto sphere capable of shaping long-term development strategies.

It is worth noting that in April of this year, the number of investment rounds in the industry reached its lowest level since February 2021.
