German Drone Manufacturer Quantum Systems Raises €160 Million and Becomes a Unicorn

The German manufacturer of autonomous unmanned aerial vehicles, Quantum Systems, has raised €160 million in a Series C funding round led by the British venture capital firm Balderton Capital. Innovations in the Defense Sector

Quantum Systems specializes in creating reconnaissance UAVs that serve dual purposes: they are used in the defense sector, agricultural sector, mining industry, and for infrastructure development. The startup has secured a number of government contracts in countries such as the USA, Colombia, Australia, Germany, Spain, and Ukraine.

Unicorn Status and Support for Ukraine

The head of Ukraine’s Ministry of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, emphasized that the total investment in Quantum Systems has reached €310 million, which has granted the company unicorn status — its valuation has exceeded $1 billion. The minister noted that since 2023, the startup has been a resident of “Diia.City,” which promotes the development of foreign manufacturing in Ukraine.

“Quantum Systems is actively developing in Ukraine. Last year, they launched drone production here. Their drones have been helping us in the war since May 2022,” the minister stated.
