There is a shortage of apple concentrate in the global food market. This could provide financial support for Ukrainian apple producers, which, in turn, will affect the prices of this fruit in the domestic market. As noted by Agrotimes, this opinion was expressed by Vladislav Makarenko, co-owner of a fruit-growing enterprise in the Chernivtsi region.

He pointed out that profitability from apple processing could increase under certain circumstances.
“In this case, the processing price will be higher than the production cost, which will prevent the farm from going bankrupt. The high price of apple concentrate may persist if the global shortage of orange concentrate continues, as well as if the high price of sugar remains,” said the expert.
Makarenko also noted that large corporations, such as Coca-Cola, currently find it more profitable to use sugar from apple concentrate rather than from cane or beets. In the 2024-2025 season, significantly high prices for processing fruits provided a major boost to the apple market, resulting in a large portion of even quality apples being sent for juice production since autumn.
“Although in our area, there was indeed not much high-quality product due to very strong hail. Initially, the farmer was in despair about what to do with the damaged harvest, but a ‘miracle’ happened – he sold the apples for juice at a price that in previous years was for commercial apples,” added the gardener.
