Situation on different fronts

Russian troops continued offensive actions in several directions. In particular, four assaults were repelled in the Northern Slobozhansky and Kursk directions, while another 11 attacks were carried out in the Southern Slobozhansky direction. Ukrainian defenders actively repelled enemy advances in the Kupiansk, Lyman, Sloviansk, and Kramatorsk directions.

In the Kostiantynivka direction, the Russian army conducted 15 assaults near Kostiantynivka, Pleshchiyivka, Stepanivka, Illinivka, and Rusynyi Yar. The situation remained particularly tense in the Pokrovsk direction, where Ukrainian defenders halted 66 assault actions of the aggressor in the areas of Novooleksandrivka, Rodynske, Hryshyne, Zatyshka, Muravka, Kotlyne, Udačne, Molodetske, as well as in the direction of Kucherovyi Yar, Vilyke, Serhiivka, Bilytske, Shevchenka, Myrnyi, and Novopavlivka.

“In the past day, aviation, missile troops, and artillery of the Defense Forces struck seven areas of enemy manpower concentration,” the command states.

Other directions and the reaction of the Ukrainian leadership

In the Oleksandrivka direction, Russian troops attacked once in the area of Zlahoda. In the Huliaipole direction, 35 attacks were recorded in the areas of Rybne, Dobropillia, Pryluky, Zaliznychne, as well as in the directions of Nova Zaporizhzhia, Huliaipole, Olenokostiantynivka, Staroukrianka, Pryvillia, Vozdvizhivka, Sviatopetrivka, Hirkoho, Tsvitkove, and Charivne. Nine more breakthrough attempts were made in the Orikhiv direction.

According to estimates from the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) as of May 21, Ukrainian troops are gradually regaining tactical initiative in certain areas of the front. Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov previously emphasized that thanks to the actions of the Ukrainian military, the disconnection of Starlink for the enemy, and the use of medium-range strike drones, it has been possible to significantly slow down the advance of Russian troops and partially regain the initiative.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in a video address on May 25 emphasized that the Ukrainian army currently has stronger positions at the front.
