Cognition Startup Secures $1 Billion Investment at a $26 Billion Valuation

American startup Cognition AI Inc., specializing in developing artificial intelligence tools for programmers, has raised over $1 billion in a new funding round. As a result of the investment, the company’s valuation has reached $26 billion, indicating a growing interest in companies that implement AI in software development.

Leading Funds and Rapid Growth of Financial Indicators

The new investment round was co-led by venture funds Lux Capital, General Catalyst, and 8VC. Ribbit Capital, Atreides Management LP, and the well-known Founders Fund, founded by billionaire Peter Thiel, also participated in the process. Cognition’s valuation has significantly increased: the company has more than doubled its market value compared to the previous funding round that took place in September 2025.

The startup was founded in 2023 and focused on creating the artificial intelligence Devin, which automates programming processes for engineers. According to the company, the annual run rate has increased to $492 million, significantly exceeding last year’s May result of $37 million. It is expected that by the end of 2026, revenue could surpass $1 billion.

Corporate Clients and Ambitions in the AI Programming Market

Cognition’s main clients include large corporations such as Goldman Sachs and Mercedes-Benz, as well as several divisions of the U.S. government. A noticeable increase in interest in AI programming tools is also evident in the actions of other market players: companies OpenAI and Anthropic are actively developing this direction, and last month Elon Musk’s SpaceX announced an agreement regarding a potential acquisition of the startup Cursor for about $60 billion.

Cognition’s leader, co-founder, and CEO Scott Wu emphasized that the company does not compete directly with major artificial intelligence laboratories but instead complements their technologies by integrating both its own solutions and products from OpenAI and Anthropic. This allows clients to choose the most effective tools for their tasks.

“According to Wu, within the company itself, Devin is already writing over 90% of the internal code.”

The new surge of investor interest was triggered by news of a potential SpaceX deal with Cursor. Following this, Cognition received a number of new inquiries from potential investors.

Last July, the company also agreed to acquire the remnants of the startup Windsurf after Google signed a $2.4 billion deal to hire key Windsurf employees and license its technologies.

Cognition plans to invest the funds raised into the development of its own artificial intelligence models, enhancing products for clients, and possible new acquisitions. Overall, considering the latest funding round, the company has raised over $2.5 billion in investments.
