Slovakia has temporarily closed all border crossing points with Ukraine

The Slovak Financial Administration announced the complete closure of all border crossing points with Ukraine starting from 3:00 PM on May 13. The reason for this step is cited as security concerns, with no further details disclosed at this time. The restrictions will remain in effect until further notice from the authorities.

Massive Attack on Transcarpathia and Slovakia’s Response

On the day the restrictions were implemented, Russia launched a large-scale missile strike on the Transcarpathian region, particularly targeting Uzhhorod, which is located directly near the Slovak border. According to Myroslav Biletsky, the head of the Transcarpathian Regional Military Administration, this was the most powerful attack on the region since the beginning of the full-scale war.

“This was the most powerful attack on the region since the start of the full-scale invasion,” noted Myroslav Biletsky.

The Slovak media outlet dennikn.sk linked the decision to close the border with these events, although official representatives of the country did not provide detailed comments regarding the reasons. The Slovak authorities urge citizens to closely monitor updates from official sources and to follow the instructions of financial service and police personnel.

Which Border Crossing Points are Closed

In total, there are six border crossing points operating between Ukraine and Slovakia: two for vehicles, two for trains, and one for pedestrians. Among the main ones are “Uzhhorod – Vyšné Nemecké,” “Maly Berezny – Ubľa,” and “Mali Selmenci – Velke Slemence.” Currently, all of them are temporarily non-functional.

Earlier, information was provided regarding the financial requirements that need to be met for crossing the border with neighboring countries, including Slovakia.
