Should We Hope for the Value of Old Ukrainian Coins

Most old Ukrainian coins do not have significant value due to their mass production and simplicity, so it is unlikely to make money from them. Numismatist Vitaliy Tkach explained that even after a year, these coins are unlikely to become more expensive, as there will still be many in circulation among other Ukrainians.

The expert noted that collectors usually value only coins made from precious metals, such as silver or gold, as well as rare specimens. “People somehow think that if they take a coin, set it aside, and sell it to someone in 100 years, it will be worth a million. This is a mistake,” he emphasized.

“Often, 25 kopecks are sent for appraisal. Their mintage was 50 million pieces. This is, roughly speaking, one coin per person,” the expert stated.

Vitaliy Tkach also emphasized that finding coins worth 10,000 UAH or more in circulation is practically impossible, so one should not expect profit from selling a few 10-kopeck coins from 1992.

However, coins valued at up to 10,000 UAH can sometimes be found, although the probability of this is quite low. According to the expert, it is easiest to discover coins that are worth a few hryvnias, but selling them is unlikely to bring significant profit. The reason is that such coins do not have particular numismatic value and therefore do not interest most people.

Nevertheless, selling cheap coins is still possible, but it requires collecting several kilograms of coins. However, even in this case, one should not expect to make a lot of money – most likely, one will only manage to earn a few hundred hryvnias or even less.
