A tragic incident occurred in the Sumy region: a resident of the Velykopysarivka community died as a result of an explosion on a Russian mine. This was reported by the head of the regional military administration, Oleg Hryhorov.

Circumstances of the Tragedy in Velykopysarivka Community
According to the regional leader, a 69-year-old man detonated a mine near his own yard. There is a possibility that the explosive device was dropped from an enemy drone. As a result of the explosion, the resident sustained severe injuries incompatible with life and died on the spot.

Oleg Hryhorov emphasized the need for all residents of border areas to exercise particular caution. He urged people not to approach suspicious or unknown objects, not to touch them, and to immediately report any findings to the police or rescuers. According to him, the greatest threat remains in populated areas near the state border.

According to information from the Main Department of Mine Action, Civil Protection, and Environmental Safety, since the beginning of the full-scale war until December 1, 2025, 1,374 people have been affected by Russian mines and explosive objects in Ukraine, including 140 children.
In early April 2025, the State Emergency Service reported that since February 2022, 336 people have died in Ukraine due to the detonation of explosive objects, including 18 children. A total of 825 citizens were injured, including 92 children. According to rescuers’ estimates, about 139,000 square kilometers of the country’s territory, which is approximately 23% of Ukraine’s total area, remain potentially dangerous due to mining.
