Prices for new crop white cabbage decreased by 18% in a week

The Ukrainian vegetable market is experiencing a noticeable decrease in prices for new crop white cabbage. At the same time, the cost of last year’s product continues to rise, creating opposing trends in the cabbage segment.

Seasonal increase in supply and the impact of weather conditions

The main factor behind the decrease in the price of new crop cabbage is the seasonal increase in its supply, as well as restrained demand from wholesalers and consumers. According to analysts, most agricultural enterprises have already started mass harvesting of early cabbage, which has led to an oversupply of the product in the market and, accordingly, to a decrease in prices.

“As of today, cabbage from the 2026 harvest is being offered for sale at 34-40 UAH/kg ($0.77-$0.91/kg), which is on average 18% cheaper than at the end of last working week.”

Wholesale and retail companies usually buy new cabbage in small batches due to its limited shelf life. At the same time, farmers with stocks of quality last year’s product are raising their selling prices, as the demand for old cabbage remains stable.

Trends in the market for last year’s and new cabbage

As of the beginning of May 2026, wholesale batches of white cabbage from the 2025 harvest are being sold at a price of 10-17 UAH/kg ($0.23-$0.39/kg), which is a few hryvnias more compared to last week, when the range was 8-15 UAH/kg. The price increase for the remaining last year’s cabbage is explained by the limited number of quality batches and stable demand from buyers.

Despite the decrease in the price of new crop cabbage, its average price is still 14% higher than at the same period last year. Experts attribute this to the cool and prolonged spring, which affected the ripening times and volumes of the harvest.

It is worth noting that a similar situation is observed in the market for other vegetables. In particular, last week Ukrainian farmers sold onions at a price of 5-10 UAH/kg, which is on average 19% more expensive than the week before.
