Experts from the National Scientific Center “Institute of Agricultural Economics” predict that food prices may slightly decrease in May 2025. In particular, according to leading researcher Natalia Kopytets, pork prices rose the most in April, especially for belly, ribs, shoulder, and neck cuts, which became more expensive by 4.1-9.5%. This is related to the traditional demand for pork during the holidays.

“In April, pork was the most expensive among other types of meat. In particular, belly, ribs, shoulder, and neck cuts increased in price by 4.1-9.5%, as dishes made from pork are key on the Easter table,” she stated.
Kopytets also noted that after the holidays, fluctuations in meat prices are always observed. This includes a decrease in the prices of some types of meat and an increase in others. Scientists predict that in May, retail prices for beef and pork may decrease by up to 3%. At the same time, due to the start of the picnic season, prices for pork neck and chicken drumsticks may rise by 1.5-2%.
Factors that significantly influenced vegetable prices include supply volumes, storage and transportation costs, as well as increased electricity tariffs for industrial producers and fuel prices. It is expected that in May, vegetable prices may decrease by up to 7% compared to April figures. Inna Salo, the chief researcher at the center, pointed out the decrease in prices for white cabbage and carrots due to the expansion of greenhouse vegetable supply.
“The average price for potatoes may decrease to 30 UAH/kg (-8%), which will, of course, depend on supply volumes, storage conditions, and logistics,” she emphasized.
There has also been a noted decrease in prices for certain types of greenhouse salad vegetables, which is related to the expansion of supply volumes and stable consumer demand. In May, the trend of decreasing prices in this segment will continue, and their cost may decrease by up to 15% compared to current prices.
