Polish President Karol Nawrocki has vetoed a bill that aimed to continue providing assistance to Ukrainian refugees. The document, among other things, was intended to extend temporary protection for Ukrainian citizens fleeing the war until March 2026.

“I firmly believe that the 800+ assistance should only be available to those Ukrainians who are making efforts to work in Poland. The same applies to healthcare,” he stated.
Changes to Support and Citizenship Programs
Karol Nawrocki also noted that he proposed an alternative bill that includes new mechanisms for granting citizenship not only to Ukrainians but also to citizens of other countries. The Rodzina 800+ program is a social initiative in Poland that guarantees monthly payments of 800 zlotys for each child until they reach the age of 18. Poland ranks second after Germany in the number of Ukrainians who have received temporary legal status due to the Russian invasion. As of March 2025, there are 992,000 Ukrainian citizens in Poland who have found refuge from the war.
Restrictions on Starlink Funding for Ukraine
Poland’s Minister of Digitalization Krzysztof Gawkowski pointed out that due to the president’s veto on the bill for financial support to Ukrainians, Poland will no longer be able to pay for Starlink satellite internet services for Ukrainian military personnel. Furthermore, according to the minister, this decision means the cessation of support for the secure storage of data for Ukrainian government agencies.
