Honoring Women in the Military and State Awards
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Syrskyi expressed gratitude to all Ukrainian women who defend Ukraine’s independence with weapons in hand. He highlighted the important role of women in the Armed Forces, who prove every day that the defense of the country is a shared responsibility, regardless of gender.
“Today we celebrate International Women’s Day. First and foremost, I want to congratulate the women who stand against the Russian aggressor with weapons in hand. I am grateful to the servicewomen who refute the claim that the defense of Ukraine is solely a man’s job.”
Awards for Heroines and Statistics on Honors
According to the Commander-in-Chief, five women defenders have been awarded the highest state title of “Hero of Ukraine,” three of whom were posthumously honored. Additionally, during the years of armed aggression by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, 1,705 female military personnel have received state awards for their professionalism, courage, bravery, and resilience demonstrated while carrying out combat missions.
International Women’s Day and International Peace Day are celebrated on March 8 worldwide, emphasizing the significance of equality and the participation of women in social and state processes, including the defense of Ukraine.
