Scale and Directions of the Attack

The Russian Armed Forces used strike drones of the Shahed type, “Gerbera,” “Italmas,” as well as other models. Launches were carried out from various directions, including from the territories of Kursk, Oryol, and Rostov regions of Russia, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, occupied Donetsk, and from Chausy in Crimea. Approximately 100 of the attacking drones were of the Shahed type.

According to military sources, Ukraine’s air defense shot down or suppressed 133 drones in the northern, southern, and eastern territories of the country. As a result of the attack, hits from 20 strike drones were recorded at 10 different locations, and debris from the downed drones fell on another 11 sites.

“Hits from 20 strike UAVs were recorded at 10 locations, as well as debris from downed drones at 11 locations,” said the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Targeted Strikes on Civilian Infrastructure

Russian military forces systematically strike Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure, using a wide range of weaponry: strike UAVs, missiles, guided bombs, and multiple rocket launch systems. Ukrainian authorities and international organizations regard these actions as war crimes by Russia, emphasizing their deliberate nature.

Particularly dangerous are the attacks on critical infrastructure and healthcare facilities, which lead to power outages, water supply disruptions, heating, communication failures, and deprive people of access to medical assistance. Such actions, according to human rights defenders and genocide researchers, contain signs of genocide.

  • Russian officials have repeatedly proclaimed the notion of the alleged non-existence of Ukrainians as a nation and called for their destruction.
  • The shelling is aimed at destroying critical infrastructure and healthcare facilities.
  • In occupied territories, there are persecutions of individuals with pro-Ukrainian positions, destruction of the intelligentsia, deportation of children, and destruction of Ukrainian books and cultural artifacts.

The Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, adopted by the UN in 1948, obliges member states to prevent and punish such crimes in times of war and peace. The document defines genocide as actions aimed at the total or partial destruction of a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group.

The leadership of Russia attempts to deny the facts of targeted attacks on civilian objects in Ukraine. However, numerous pieces of evidence indicate massive destruction of hospitals, schools, energy facilities, and other vital infrastructure systems.
