The American company OpenAI, one of the leading developers in the field of artificial intelligence, has introduced a new feature in its ChatGPT mobile application. Now users can utilize the Codex coding tool directly from their smartphones.

New opportunities for developers in ChatGPT

Codex is a specialized artificial intelligence system designed to assist programmers. It can understand queries formulated in natural language and convert them into working code. The tool was launched about a year ago, but now its functionality is fully integrated into the ChatGPT mobile app for both iOS and Android.

“This is more than just the ability to remotely control a specific task or send new tasks to your computer. From your phone, you can work with all your workflows, view results, approve commands, change models, or start something new,” said OpenAI in a statement.

Competition and the development of AI for coding

The update is currently in preview mode but is already available for download on both major mobile platforms. This allows users to manage development processes, check the results of completed tasks, approve commands, and launch new projects directly from their phones.

In February, Anthropic, a competitor of OpenAI, also added a “Remote Control” feature to its AI assistant Claude Code, enabling users to manage code writing remotely. Over the past year, this tool has gained popularity among both business representatives and IT professionals. Meanwhile, both Codex and Claude Code remain widely used solutions in the field of coding automation.

Additionally, OpenAI recently announced another new feature for ChatGPT called “Trusted Contact.” It is designed to inform a trusted third party if signs of self-harm are detected during conversations.
