The Ukrainian market for bulb onions is experiencing its first significant price increase in 2026. Over the past few months, the price of this vegetable remained stable, without sharp changes.

Factors Contributing to the Rapid Price Increase
As of April, producers are selling onions within the range of 4–9 UAH per kilogram, which indicates a sharp price increase of nearly 40% in a short period. This jump is explained by several key reasons:
- reduction of stocks in farms;
- revival of demand from wholesale buyers;
- limited availability of quality products in the market.
As a result, a market imbalance has formed: supply is decreasing faster than demand. Most producers have already sold their stocks, and those who still have onions are holding back sales, hoping for further price increases.

Market Prospects and Expert Expectations
Despite the current increase, onion prices remain significantly lower than they were last year—by approximately two-thirds. This indicates that the market has only just begun to recover after the previous prolonged price decline.
According to experts’ forecasts, prices may continue to rise in the coming weeks. Only the arrival of a new harvest can change the situation, allowing for a balance between supply and demand. Previously, Ukraine had already recorded a wave of price decreases for bulb onions, although farmers expected prices to rise in spring due to a reduction in the volume of low-quality products.
