Onion prices in Ukraine have seen a significant increase, attributed to a decrease in the supply of this vegetable from local farms. Wholesale prices for onions in the Ukrainian market have started to rise again, as indicated by a new study from the EastFruit project.

As of Friday, May 9, farmers are offering onions for sale at prices ranging from 18 to 27 UAH/kg ($0.43-0.65/kg). This represents an average increase of 13% compared to the end of last week. The main reason for this rise is the seasonal depletion of onion stocks on farms, leading to a reduced supply in the market.
Onion Market Situation
Despite the price increase, market activity remains quite high, which also influences further price growth. Farmers note that although prices are rising, they do not expect a significant increase at this time. This is due to buyers often expressing dissatisfaction with the quality of the products.
Comparison with Previous Years
It is important to note that currently, the price of onions in Ukraine is 26% higher than in the first decade of May 2024. This indicates a consistent trend of rising prices, which is likely to continue in the coming months.
