Next Generation Hyundai Elantra: First Test Photos and Redesign Features

Despite the dominance of crossovers in the automotive market, the Hyundai Elantra maintains consistently high sales and remains one of the brand’s key models. In the past year alone, over 148,200 units of this sedan were sold in the USA, indicating an 8% increase in demand. Against this backdrop of success, the Korean manufacturer is actively preparing for the debut of the eighth generation Elantra, with its official premiere expected next year. Recently, cameras captured a prototype of the new model during winter testing.

Exterior and Design: New Features and Unexpected Solutions

Judging by the fresh spy shots, the eighth generation Hyundai Elantra will undergo a radical transformation in its appearance. The front of the car has become more massive and features pronounced square shapes. Through the dense camouflage, T-shaped LED daytime running lights can be seen above the rectangular headlights. Attention is also drawn to the new wide air intake at the bottom of the bumper with horizontal slats, while the grille has become more compact compared to the previous version.

The sedan’s profile appears more restrained: the roof has become flatter, a massive rear pillar has emerged, and a small window has appeared at the back. The window line and side contours look more conservative than in previous generations.

The rear of the vehicle is distinguished by vertical taillights and horizontal turn signals reminiscent of Cadillac’s style. The image is complemented by a rounded bumper and a large spoiler.

“The new Elantra will visually differ significantly from the current model. The front of the car looks much taller and has more ‘square’ outlines.”

Technical Innovations and Engine Lineup

The interior of the test prototype is completely concealed; however, experts predict the integration of a modern multimedia system called Pleos. It will operate on the Android Automotive platform, feature a smartphone-like interface, and utilize artificial intelligence functions for personalizing the user experience.

As for the powertrains, the upcoming Elantra will likely borrow its engine lineup from the new Kia K4. Two gasoline engines are expected:

  • 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine with 147 hp (179 Nm);
  • 1.6-liter turbocharged engine with 190 hp (264 Nm).

In addition to the standard options, a hybrid version is expected to join the lineup, as well as a sporty N version, the prototype of which has already been captured multiple times during testing. Along with the release of the eighth generation, the manufacturer may reintroduce the Elantra to the European market, as indicated by industry rumors.
