In June, the National Bank of Ukraine plans to issue two new commemorative coins with a denomination of 5 hryvnias. These coins will be dedicated to traditional Ukrainian ceramics from the village of Opishnya in Poltava region, as well as the self-propelled artillery system (SPAS) “Bogdana.” This information was released by the NBU press service.

Circulation and features of the coins
The circulation of each new coin will be up to 75 thousand copies. The names of the coins are: “Opishnyanska Ceramics” and “Ukrainian Cotton. SPAS ‘Bogdana.'” It is known that they will be part of the series “Ukrainian Heritage” and “Armed Forces of Ukraine.” The coins will be made of nickel silver – an alloy consisting of copper, nickel, and zinc. Their diameter will be 35 mm.
Cultural value of commemorative coins
Commemorative coins are special monetary signs that have not only payment value but also cultural, historical, and numismatic significance. They are made from both non-precious metals, such as copper-nickel alloys, and precious metals, including silver and gold. These coins are distinguished by a high level of artistic design and limited circulation, making them objects of collection and investment.
For example, on May 27, the NBU announced the sale of a silver commemorative coin with a denomination of 10 hryvnias, dedicated to the unique technique of plontanism by Ukrainian artist Ivan Marchuk. The price for this coin will be 5,876 hryvnias per unit, and one buyer can purchase no more than one coin.
“The commemorative coin serves as a tribute to an outstanding master whose talent and innovative approach to painting have gained recognition worldwide. It embodies the inexhaustible creative power and depth of the Ukrainian soul, which live in every intricate line on the artist’s canvases,” the NBU stated.
