Iran Recognizes the Armies of EU Countries as Terrorist Organizations in Response to EU Decision

The Iranian parliament has officially declared the armies of European Union states as “terrorist organizations” in response to the inclusion of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on the EU’s list of terrorist organizations.

Tehran’s Reaction to EU Actions

Iran’s parliamentary speaker, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, stated that this decision was made in accordance with Article 7 of the countermeasures law against the designation of the IRGC as a terrorist organization. This move is a reaction to the actions of the European Union, which classified the IRGC as a terrorist organization following the suppression of protests in Iran.

“In trying to strike at the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps… the Europeans have effectively shot themselves in the foot and have once again made a decision against the interests of their people, blindly submitting to the Americans… According to Article 7 of the countermeasures law against the designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization, the armies of European countries are considered terrorist groups,” the speaker declared before the deputies.

Escalation of International Tensions

The European Union made its decision regarding the IRGC after the most brutal suppression of protests since the establishment of the Islamic Republic in 1979. The IRGC emphasized that this step by the EU complicates the possibilities for constructive cooperation and only intensifies confrontation between the countries.

In parallel with these events, the United States is increasing its military presence in the region. Following repeated warnings from U.S. President Donald Trump regarding possible intervention if Iran refuses to sign the nuclear agreement or ceases violence against protesters, six American destroyers, an aircraft carrier, and three coastal combat ships are currently in the Persian Gulf. The Iranian side has expressed its readiness for “fair” negotiations, and the U.S. president has also not ruled out the possibility of a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.
