In 2025, the average cost of a New Year’s table for Ukrainian families has increased by approximately 12-15% compared to last year. This was reported by expert Oleg Pendzin from the “Economic Discussion Club,” emphasizing that the price depends not only on the chosen dishes but also on the timing of purchases.

Cost of the Festive Table: Key Figures and Regional Differences
According to estimates, last year the basic set of dishes for four people, which included traditional Olivier salad, herring under a fur coat, smoked meats, and one bottle of sparkling wine, cost an average of 3730 UAH. In 2025, these expenses have increased to over 4000 UAH. Oleg Pendzin notes that prices can vary significantly depending on the region, as the cost of products differs across various areas.
“Last year, our New Year’s table for an average of four people – this basic option with herring under a fur coat, Olivier salad, smoked meats, and one bottle of sparkling wine – cost 3730 UAH. This year, according to various calculations, it came out to a little over 4000,” he said in an interview with “Ukrainian Radio.”
Tips for Saving on New Year’s Purchases
The specialist emphasizes that the timing of product purchases significantly affects the total expenses. According to Pendzin, retailers and trade networks actively replenish their stocks before the holidays, ensuring a wide selection of goods and the absence of shortages. However, the biggest discounts and promotions are expected one or two days before the New Year, when retailers aim to sell off excess products.
After the holidays, approximately until January 10, demand for products sharply declines, while significant stocks remain in warehouses. To avoid losses, stores hold large sales, and it is during this period that goods can be purchased at reduced prices. This is particularly noticeable in large retail chains that have an extensive network of stores and significant product inventories.
Pendzin emphasizes that a careful approach to planning purchases and taking advantage of promotions will help Ukrainians save significantly on their festive table.
