Fire at the Moscow Military School: Details of the Incident and Consequences

A large-scale fire occurred in Moscow at the Higher Combined Arms Command School, located at 2 Golovachova Street in the Lyublino district. The incident took place on the afternoon of April 5, when a fire broke out on the roof of the educational building, prompting emergency services to immediately classify it as a high-complexity situation.

The initial area of the fire was 60 square meters but quickly expanded to 200 square meters. All individuals present in the building were promptly evacuated, which helped avoid casualties.

According to preliminary data, the causes of the fire are still being investigated; however, according to information from the press service of the Russian Ministry of Defense, one of the theories is a short circuit in the electrical network in the attic of the educational institution.

History and Role of the Moscow Higher Combined Arms School

The Moscow Higher Combined Arms Command School, named after Zhukov, Lenin, and the October Revolution, has a history spanning over a century. It was founded in 1917 as the 1st Moscow Revolutionary Machine Gun School and received its current name in 2017 after a series of renamings.

Since 2016, the institution has been training command personnel with both higher civilian and secondary military-specialized education. MVZKU is the only military university in Russia authorized to conduct the graduation of young officers in Red Square in Moscow. Graduates of this school, known as “Kremlin Cadets,” are actively participating in the war against Ukraine.
