Experience of Online Sales in Ukraine: 24% of Ukrainians Have Sold Goods Online

Every fourth Ukrainian has experience in online trading: 24% of citizens have already sold their goods through online platforms, marketplaces, or social networks. Another 19% of respondents have not yet engaged in online sales but plan to try this type of activity in the near future.

Age and Activity of Online Trading Users

These results were obtained during a survey conducted by Rakuten Viber, which involved over 20,000 respondents. The majority of participants in the study are people under 45 years old, with the main age group being between 34 and 45 years.

At the same time, more than half of the respondents (55%) reported that they have not sold goods online and do not plan to do so in the future. 20% have experience with a few online sales, 4% engage in this activity on a regular basis, and 2% sell goods offline — to acquaintances or friends.

Main Challenges in Online Sales

The biggest difficulty for Ukrainians who have conducted online sales turned out to be communication with buyers — this was stated by 18% of respondents. Another 16% faced problems during payment and shipping of goods, while for 14%, the biggest obstacle was posting advertisements on platforms. The remaining 52% indicated that their issues were related to other factors.

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Taxation, and Customs Policy supported a bill that establishes rules for the automatic exchange of data on the income of users of digital platforms.

According to the new bill, income earned by citizens from sales through online platforms such as OLX, Prom, Bolt, Glovo, Rozetka, and others will be subject to taxation. At the same time, Ukrainians are entitled to an annual exemption of 2,000 euros in income from sales through platforms — such income will not be taxed.
