European Consortium Plans Construction of Green Hydrogen Plant in Lviv Region for Export to the EU

Європейський консорціум хоче збудувати завод з виробництва зеленого водню на Львівщині для експорту газу до ЄС.

The European consortium of energy companies H2EU+Store has completed the feasibility study for a large-scale green hydrogen production project in the western regions of Ukraine. Experts note the unique advantages of this region for the development of hydrogen energy, including a strong wind and solar potential, the availability of significant water resources for electrolysis, and access to the cross-border gas transportation network.

Potential of Lviv Region for Hydrogen Energy

Particular attention in the study has been given to the Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. These regions have been identified as the most promising for the implementation of hydrogen projects due to favorable natural conditions, high energy potential, and developed transport infrastructure. A land plot in the Lviv region has already been selected to initiate the project.

Export to the EU and Initial Production Volumes

In the initial phase, the project plans to produce about 9,000 tons of green hydrogen annually. All finished products will be directed for export to European Union countries, particularly Austria and Germany.

“According to experts, western Ukraine has a unique combination of factors for the development of hydrogen infrastructure. The region possesses significant wind and solar potential, sufficient water resources for electrolysis, and access to cross-border gas transportation infrastructure.”
