From January to March 2025, Ukraine earned $18 million from electricity exports. In April 2025, electricity exports increased by nearly 100% compared to March, reaching almost 157,000 MWh. This is the highest figure since October 2022. Electricity supplies were made both during the day and at night; however, electricity imports continued during the morning and evening peaks.

Among the main electricity exporters in Ukraine are currently the companies Energoatom, DTEK, and Ukrhydroenergo. Starting from May 1, 2025, the capacity for electricity exports from Ukraine and Moldova to EU countries was increased from 550 to 650 MW. This will enhance Ukraine’s capabilities for balancing the energy system without generation restrictions and will serve as an additional tool for generating profit.
Electricity Trade with Neighboring Countries
Currently, Ukraine is engaged in electricity trade with all its neighbors in Europe, including Slovakia, Romania, Hungary, Poland, and Moldova. Every spring, export volumes increase while imports decrease due to weather factors. It is worth noting that the maximum import capacity of electricity from the EU to Ukraine rose from 1.7 to 2.1 GW in December 2024.
