Diesel Cars Account for Nearly 20% of New Passenger Car Sales in Ukraine in 2025

Diesel cars continue to enjoy significant popularity among Ukrainian drivers. In the first half of 2025, Ukraine’s vehicle fleet was replenished with 31.6 thousand passenger cars with diesel engines, which is 13% less compared to the same period last year.

Share of Diesel Cars in the Market for New and Used Vehicles

Out of the total number of registered diesel cars, 6.4 thousand were new, while the lion’s share – 25.2 thousand – consisted of used cars imported from abroad. In the market for new passenger cars, diesel models accounted for 19% of sales. Meanwhile, among used cars brought in from abroad, the share of diesel vehicles reached 22%.

In comparison, in 2024, these figures were higher: diesel cars made up 24% of sales among new passenger cars and 25% among imported used ones.

Leaders Among New and Used Diesel Cars

Among new diesel passenger cars, Ukrainians most frequently chose the following models:

  • Renault Duster – 1634 units
  • Toyota Land Cruiser Prado – 791
  • Volkswagen Touareg – 617
  • Volkswagen Tiguan – 466
  • Škoda Kodiaq – 355

As for imported used diesel passenger cars, the most popular were:

  • Renault Mégane – 2188 units
  • Škoda Octavia – 1707
  • Nissan Qashqai – 1660
  • Volkswagen Passat – 1396
  • Volkswagen Golf – 874
