How Prices for Different Types of Chicken Have Changed
According to analytics from the “Minfin” portal, whole chickens have seen the largest price increase over the year. In May 2024, the average price for whole chickens was 78.02 UAH/kg, and by May 2025, their price reached 114.30 UAH/kg, which is 46.5% higher than last year.
Chicken fillet prices have also risen significantly. In the past month, the average price was 220.70 UAH/kg, which is 38% more than in May 2024, when a kilogram cost 159.85 UAH.
Chicken thighs have also become more expensive. Currently, the average price is 134.30 UAH/kg, which is 20.8% higher than last year’s figure of 111.19 UAH/kg.
The smallest increase was noted for chicken drumsticks – in May 2024, they cost 79.03 UAH/kg, and now their average price is 94.50 UAH/kg, which is 19.6% more.
Factors Contributing to the Increase in Chicken Prices
“Chicken prices are rising primarily due to the increase in feed costs, as well as due to stable demand for this type of meat as a relatively inexpensive source of animal protein,” noted the Ukrainian Club of Agrarian Business (UCAB).
Analysts add that the cost of chicken meat is also affected by:
- the rise in fuel and electricity prices;
- increased transportation and animal maintenance costs;
- inflationary processes in Ukraine and fluctuations in the exchange rate of the hryvnia.
Experts predict that the combination of these factors will continue to support high prices for chicken.
