Statement from the Ukrainian Embassy
The Ukrainian Embassy in Italy emphasized that the Ukrainian flag today is a symbol of the struggle for freedom, independence, democracy, and life. Diplomats stressed the unacceptability of aggression and discrimination against people with Ukrainian symbols.
“Violence against those who oppose the daily killings of innocent people, the deportation of children, and attempts by Russia to destroy an independent state and its people is met with deep outrage and complete incomprehension,” the Ukrainian Embassy in Italy stated.
At the same time, embassy representatives expressed gratitude to Italians who support Ukraine and its people in their fight for life and future.
Position of the Italian Authorities
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni categorically condemned the attacks on people with Ukrainian flags. She stated that during the mass events, attacks occurred against representatives of a people fighting for their freedom. Meloni also pointed out a number of other violations during the rally, including an incident where aggressively inclined participants forced representatives of the so-called “Jewish Brigade,” who participated in the liberation of Italy as part of the British Army in 1945, to leave the procession.
According to the head of the government, if those who commit such acts consider themselves defenders of freedom and democracy, then society should reflect on this issue.
Additionally, news emerged about a court ruling in the juvenile cases of the city of Lecce regarding the adoption of a Ukrainian child by foreign citizens. The child’s mother is alive and has not been deprived of parental rights, while the father is listed as missing in action at the front.
