Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated during a briefing in Kyiv on March 5 that Ukraine may provide the Armed Forces with the address of an official from the European Union who is blocking financial support for our state. He did not name a specific individual but emphasized the importance of resolving this issue to ensure that Ukrainian military personnel receive the necessary weapons.

“We hope that one person in the European Union will not block 90 billion or the first tranche of 90 billion, and Ukrainian soldiers will have weapons; otherwise, we will give this person’s address to our Armed Forces, to our guys – let them call him and communicate with him in their own language.”
According to the president, Ukraine has no alternative to these funds, and their blockage is initiated by only one person, which is officially not a secret. Zelensky stressed that the delay in funding jeopardizes the country’s defense capability.
Hungary Blocks Financial Aid and EU Sanctions
In February, Hungary opposed the European Union’s decision to provide Ukraine with a loan of 90 billion euros. The approval of this financial support requires the consent of all EU member states. Additionally, due to Budapest’s position, the bloc was unable to adopt the 20th package of sanctions against Russia, which was planned for the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Political Context in Hungary
The Hungarian government’s refusal to support Ukrainian initiatives coincided with the period leading up to the parliamentary elections scheduled for April 12. This year, for the first time in a long time, opposition forces have a real chance to challenge the incumbent Prime Minister Viktor Orban and change the country’s political course.
