The European Union has begun discussions on providing financial assistance to Ukraine for the restoration of the Druzhba pipeline, which has been damaged due to Russian attacks. The issue of support has become particularly pressing in light of Hungary and Slovakia blocking European aid to Kyiv and sanctions against Russia until oil supplies are restored.

Damage and Repair of the Druzhba Pipeline
In January of this year, a large-scale fire caused by shelling from the Russian Federation resulted in damage to tanks, technological equipment, and safety systems. Cleanup and repair work were carried out even during new attacks. According to information obtained from Bloomberg, the European Commission is considering the possibility of using budget funds to finance the repair work and is also ready to provide technical expertise to assess the damage.
Political Obstacles and EU Negotiations
Hungary and Slovakia have accused Ukraine of delaying oil supplies and have expressed doubts about the extent of the damage, refusing to acknowledge the Russian attack. They insist on the quickest possible restoration of supplies and do not agree to alternative supply routes, considering the more favorable price of Russian oil. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the Druzhba pipeline has suffered nearly twenty attacks, and experts warn of the likelihood of new strikes even after repairs are completed.
The EU is currently negotiating with Ukraine regarding a possible mission to thoroughly assess the damages inflicted on the pipeline, which could serve as a basis for further financial and technical assistance.
