Zelensky Expresses Willingness to Sign Drone Agreement with the U.S. Involving Trump

Ukraine continues to actively promote the idea of signing a strategic agreement with the United States regarding the joint production of drones. This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelensky while answering journalists’ questions. According to him, discussions on this document have been ongoing for over a year, and the issue remains relevant, as the U.S. is a key partner for Ukraine in the field of security.

Key Areas of the Future Agreement

Zelensky emphasized that this is not only about interceptor drones, but primarily about maritime drones and long-range unmanned aerial vehicles that have already proven their effectiveness in combat conditions. The agreement is also expected to include the exchange of important technological knowledge, conducting joint training, and personnel education.

“It’s not just about interceptor drones. Primarily, it’s about maritime drones, our long-range drones that have been tested by war. And, of course, it includes a package for exchanging important knowledge, training, etc. I am very interested in signing this agreement with our close partner – the United States of America. So when President Trump is ready, I will definitely be ready. I believe our negotiating team will discuss this issue as well,” the head of state said.

Washington’s Position and Cooperation Prospects

Last week, U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated his refusal to support Ukraine in the context of defending against Iranian drones in an interview with NBC News. He stated that the United States does not need help, noting that “the last person we need help from is Zelensky.” Despite this, Trump did not clarify whether America received technical support from Ukraine regarding interceptor drones during operations against Iran.

In early March, Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine is ready to help Middle Eastern countries defend themselves against Iranian attacks, and Ukrainian specialists will work directly on-site. Meanwhile, the Financial Times noted that the U.S. and one of the Gulf countries are interested in purchasing Ukrainian interceptor drones. However, official Tehran labeled Ukraine as a “legitimate target.”
