Given the likelihood of prolonged power outages in Ukraine, many families are considering building up supplies of food that can be stored without refrigeration and will not spoil over time.

Non-Refrigerated Foods
In the absence of electricity and the inability to store food in a refrigerator, the diet can be based on vegetables and fruits that are stable at room temperature, as well as various canned goods. The most suitable products for such conditions include:
- Vegetables: potatoes, carrots, beets, onions, cabbage;
- Fruits: apples, citrus fruits (lemons, oranges), kiwis;
- Canned Goods: meat, fish, and vegetable cans, both homemade and factory-produced;
- Dried Products: jerky, dried fish;
- Dairy Products: ultra-pasteurized milk in Tetra Paks, which can be stored at temperatures up to +25 °C.
It is also important to stock up on grains, particularly rice, oatmeal, lentils, beans, as well as flour. To maintain their quality, it is better to transfer these products into glass containers, adding bay leaves for protection against moths and bugs.
“Eternal” Storage Products and Food for an Emergency Bag
There are products that, when stored in a dry and dark place, can remain safe for consumption for decades. It is advisable to include them in a strategic emergency supply:
- salt and sugar;
- natural honey;
- white rice;
- dried beans;
- vinegar and soy sauce;
- powdered milk;
- strong alcohol.
“These products can remain suitable for consumption for decades without losing their properties and taste.”
During prolonged blackouts or air alerts, it is important to have food on hand that can be consumed without additional preparation. For assembling an “emergency bag,” it is recommended to include condensed milk (as a source of quick energy), nuts, seeds, dry biscuits, crackers, cereals, and instant soups (which only require boiling water), drinking water, packaged juices, and cans with a pull-tab for easy opening.
Experts advise regularly reviewing supplies and updating those products that the family consumes most often to avoid spoilage and maintain their relevance.
