Donetsk, Sumy, and Zaporizhzhia Regions: Details of Casualties

Attacks on Kharkiv and Kherson Regions, Signs of Genocide

The authorities of Kherson and Kharkiv regions also reported one civilian injured over the past day.

Russian military forces continue to shell Ukrainian cities with various types of weapons, including strike drones, missiles, aerial bombs, and multiple rocket launch systems. These attacks are often aimed at civilian infrastructure, leading to widespread destruction and casualties among the civilian population.

“On March 8, the Russians killed one resident of Donetsk region: in Shabelkivka. Another three people in the region were injured over the day,” he stated.

International organizations and Ukrainian authorities qualify such actions as war crimes and emphasize their targeted nature. Shelling of vital infrastructure, hospitals, energy facilities, and creating unbearable living conditions for the population exhibit signs of genocidal actions.

The President of Russia and other officials have repeatedly publicly stated their intentions to destroy the Ukrainian nation, as well as persecute individuals with pro-Ukrainian positions in occupied territories, abduct children, and seize Ukrainian books and artifacts.

According to the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1948, member states are obligated to prevent and punish acts of genocide during war and peace. Signs of genocide include killings, causing serious bodily and mental harm, creating conditions leading to the destruction of a group of people, and the forcible transfer of children.

The Russian leadership denies that their armed forces intentionally strike civilian infrastructure, hospitals, schools, and energy facilities, resulting in suffering and deaths among the civilian population of Ukraine.
