«This is an important step towards stabilizing the global economy. Clear, predictable conditions are essential for the functioning of trade networks and supply chains,» she stated.

Von der Leyen also emphasized the negative impact of tariffs on businesses and consumers, highlighting the importance of a «zero for zero» tariff policy between the European Union and the United States.

«The European Union remains committed to constructive negotiations with the United States to achieve seamless and mutually beneficial trade,» the head of the European Commission noted.

At the same time, Ursula von der Leyen mentioned that Europe continues to work on diversifying trade partnerships, collaborating with countries that account for 87% of global trade and share a commitment to free and open exchange of goods, services, and ideas.

She also emphasized that the EU is ramping up efforts to remove barriers in the internal market, stating that «this crisis has clarified one thing: in times of uncertainty, the single market is our anchor of stability and resilience.»

It is worth noting that U.S. President Donald Trump previously announced a 90-day pause and «significant reduction» of mutual tariffs with 75 countries. However, he also announced an immediate increase in tariffs on Chinese goods to 125%, accusing Beijing of «disrespecting» global markets.
