United Kingdom Extends Permit for Ukrainians, Germany Tightens Sanctions on Payments

The United Kingdom has announced an extension of the Ukraine Permission Extension program for another two years, allowing Ukrainian citizens to legally reside in the country. Thanks to this program, Ukrainians can find employment, rent housing, access social support, and receive education.

Changes in Germany’s Social Policy

At the same time, in Germany, the Ministry of Labor has reported another freeze on the amount of social benefits in 2026 for 5.6 million recipients, a significant portion of whom are Ukrainian migrants. The monthly payment for single individuals will remain at €563, while the amount for children will range from €357 to €471 depending on their age.

However, Labor Minister Berbel Bas has proposed significantly stricter sanctions for those who do not cooperate with employment centers. For missing mandatory appointments, assistance will be reduced by 30%, and those who refuse offered jobs may be completely deprived of payments. The decision will take effect after approval by the Cabinet of Ministers on September 10, without the need for agreement from the Bundestag. The changes are related to the need to adjust social payments following a decrease in inflation and a review of standard rates.

Reasons for New Restrictions in Germany

The introduction of new sanctions is explained by the necessity to review social standards in light of slowing inflation and the optimization of budget expenditures. It is expected that after approval by the Cabinet of Ministers, these changes will come into effect without additional agreement from the Bundestag.
