Starting January 1, 2026, a unified ticket format will be implemented for all types of public transport in Ukraine. This decision has been approved by the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine, and the new regulation applies to urban, suburban, and intercity bus routes, trams, trolleybuses, and the metro.

Standardization of Tickets: Key Details
All tickets, both paper and electronic (issued through the Automated Fare Collection System), will have mandatory details:
- ticket price (full or discounted, VAT, commission fee if applicable);
- serial, fiscal number, or unique identifier for the electronic version;
- date and time of departure or validity period;
- information about the carrier (name, EDRPOU code or RNOCP code, address, contacts);
- data about the insurance contract and insurer;
- if necessary — a QR code on the front side of the ticket.
Features for Different Types of Transport
For urban and suburban buses, the electronic ticket can be sent to a smartphone via QR code, email, or mobile application. For suburban routes, a baggage receipt will be issued for transporting items.
On intercity buses, tickets must contain detailed information about the route, including transfer points and waiting times. For international trips, tickets will be personalized with the passenger’s surname and first name as per their passport, and the transfer of tickets to another person is prohibited, along with the inclusion of transfer data.
For the first time, requirements for ticket issuance for electric transport: trams, trolleybuses, and the metro have been approved. The electronic ticket can be used via QR code, mobile application, email, or personal account. Insurance data may be placed on both the front and back sides of the ticket.
“Despite the fact that public transport in Kyiv is subsidized, the city is currently looking for ways not to raise fares. Although this has already been done in many large cities in Ukraine,” said Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
He also emphasized that fare increases in urban transport will not be considered until the end of the war.
Additionally, passengers of the Kyiv Ring Electric Train can now use the virtual fare validation service. To do this, they simply need to open the Kyiv Digital mobile application, select the “Fare Payment” service, and scan the QR code located in the carriage.
