Use of ATACMS and SCALP Missiles During the Operation
Units of the Missile Forces and Artillery of the Ground Forces, together with the aviation of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, were involved in the strike. Following the impact, a large fire and a series of secondary explosions were recorded at the site. The command clarified that the operation aimed to destroy a key base used by the occupying forces for the preparation and launch of drones.
“In the area of Donetsk airport, ATACMS and SCALP missiles today struck the storage, preparation, and launch site of the enemy’s strike UAVs of the ‘Shahed’ type. The strike was carried out by units of the Missile Forces and Artillery of the Ground Forces in conjunction with the aviation of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the command reports.
Previously, the General Staff had already reported on the strike against the ‘Shahed’ base in the territory of Donetsk airport, although details regarding the type of weapon used were not disclosed at that time. On the morning of March 6, the commander of the drone forces, Robert “Madyar” Brovdi, also reported a successful attack on the same base. Local residents, according to the ASTRA Telegram channel, heard powerful explosions in Donetsk.
Additional Strikes on the Rear of Russian Forces
In addition to this operation, Ukrainian forces carried out a series of strikes on the night of March 7. In particular, they hit a drone control point near Dibrova in occupied Luhansk and a command-observation point in the area of Kruhlyakivka in the temporarily occupied territory of Kharkiv region. Russian artillery positions in Kharkiv and Donetsk regions were also subjected to fire impact.
According to the General Staff, strikes were also carried out on areas of concentration of enemy personnel near the settlements of Novohryhorivka, Zaliznychne (temporarily occupied territory of Zaporizhzhia region), Torske (temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk region), and Sopych in Sumy region. The final scale of enemy losses and damages is currently being clarified.
In response, the Russian side claimed to have allegedly shot down 124 Ukrainian drones overnight. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russian regions and occupied territories have regularly suffered attacks from drones and artillery shelling.
The Ukrainian military command emphasizes that it systematically conducts operations to destroy the rear bases of the Russian army to reduce its offensive potential and weaken the enemy’s logistics.
