Scaling Production and Investments
According to specialists, last year the utilization of Ukrainian production capacities in the defense industry reached only 30-40%. The remaining resources could be engaged in fulfilling foreign contracts. The opening of exports allows manufacturers not only to expand production volumes but also to attract additional investments, which will facilitate the launch of new technologies, especially in the fields of unmanned aerial vehicles, electronic warfare, and reconnaissance.
Security and Integration into the European Space
One of the key goals of exporting is to create legal conditions for opening production facilities of Ukrainian companies in EU countries. This will protect production from destruction due to Russian attacks and ensure stable supplies of weapons to Ukraine. There is particular interest in the West for modern communication technologies and software products developed by Ukrainian engineers during the war.
President Volodymyr Zelensky has approved the personal composition of the Interagency Commission on Military-Technical Cooperation and Export Control, which includes 17 members. This is expected to strengthen export control and guarantee the prioritization of the needs of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
Exports will occur in a controlled manner and with “unconditional priority given to the needs of the Defense Forces.”
According to the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, the production capabilities of the domestic defense industry currently exceed 55 billion dollars. Coordinated exports allow for attracting international investments and activating the development of new technologies for the Ukrainian army, significantly enhancing the country’s defense capabilities.
