Ukrainian Farmers Have Sown Nearly One Million Hectares of Spring Grains in April 2026

As of mid-April 2026, Ukrainian agricultural producers have already sown nearly 1 million hectares of spring grains and legumes, which accounts for 17% of the planned area for these crops.

Details of the Sowing Campaign at the Start of the Season

The largest areas sown have been recorded for barley, with 528.7 thousand hectares planted, as well as for spring wheat — 128.5 thousand hectares. Farmers have also sown peas on 209.8 thousand hectares, oats on 100.3 thousand hectares, millet on 0.3 thousand hectares, and corn on 0.1 thousand hectares.

The leaders in the area sown with spring crops are Odesa Oblast (164.5 thousand hectares), Ternopil (81 thousand hectares), and Mykolaiv (79.3 thousand hectares).

Sowing of Technical Crops and the Start of the Sunflower Campaign

Alongside the sowing of spring grains, the sowing of technical crops is ongoing in Ukraine — currently, 126.8 thousand hectares have been sown. In particular, sugar beets already occupy 68.6 thousand hectares, which is 35% of the projected area for this crop.

In 13 regions of the country, the sowing of sunflowers has begun, with 58.1 thousand hectares already planted. In Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, corn sowing has started, and in Lviv Oblast, 0.1 thousand hectares have already been sown with soybeans.

According to the updated balance of major agricultural crops from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for the marketing year 2025/2026, the forecast for Ukrainian wheat exports has been reduced to 12.5 million tons.
