Sunflower and Soybean Oils – Key Drivers of Growth

The key factor behind this surge was sunflower oil: its export more than doubled in both monetary and physical terms – over 120%. Soybean oil also showed significant growth, with shipments increasing by approximately 28% over the month.

Export Geography and Global Market Trends

The vast majority of Ukrainian vegetable oil in October was shipped to European Union countries – about 60% of total exports. Another 35.2% went to Asian countries. The largest importers remain the Netherlands, Spain, Poland, and India.

“In October, the global price index for vegetable oil moved against the overall trend in the food market and rose by 0.9%, reaching its highest level since July 2022. Prices for palm, rapeseed, soybean, and sunflower oils increased due to a number of factors, including mandatory biofuel usage and delays in harvesting in the Black Sea region.”

Analysts predict that the oilseed crop in Ukraine in 2025 will be nearly 2 million tons lower than last year, totaling around 19.3–19.5 million tons.
