Ukrainian Exchange Offices Forecast Dollar Rate Changes Next Week

Significant changes in the dollar exchange rate are expected at Ukrainian exchange offices. According to analysts’ forecasts, next week (April 14-20), the currency’s value at exchange offices will fluctuate between 40.7 and 41.5 UAH. Currently, on the evening of April 12, exchange points were buying dollars at an average rate of 40.33 UAH and selling them at 41.25 UAH.

Thus, there is a possibility of an increase in the rate for both buying and selling currency. In banks, however, a decrease in the rate is anticipated for both buying and selling. As noted by Taras Lesovyi, head of the treasury department at Globus Bank, the rate in banks will remain within similar ranges as at exchange offices — 40.7-41.5 UAH. On the evening of April 12, they were buying dollars at an average of 41.1 UAH and selling them at 41.75 UAH.

“Throughout the next week, any frenzied activity in the currency market is almost excluded. In wartime conditions, the National Bank remains the main and most influential participant, and therefore, rate changes will not come as a ‘surprise’ to citizens. The situation will develop according to economic and monetary circumstances,” the statement reads.

Lesovyi also emphasized that political, international, or military circumstances “will not hinder stability in the currency market.” In his opinion, the main factors that will influence the rate will be:

  • monetary measures of the NBU;
  • economic development.

“Despite the clutter of sensational news ‘about war’, ‘about peace’, the situation in the currency market will remain quite calm and predictable. As before, the leading role will be played by the interbank market, based on the rates which banks and exchange offices will set their currency ‘price tags’,” the banker concluded.
