Ukrainian Energy System May Run Out of Repair Equipment After Several Attacks

Supplies of equipment necessary for the repair of the Ukrainian energy system may be completely exhausted in the near future. This was stated by the director of the Energy Research Center, Oleksandr Kharchenko, during a briefing.

Critical Shortage of Equipment for Energy System Restoration

The expert emphasized that several new massive attacks from Russia could lead to the complete depletion of repair equipment supplies. Kharchenko pointed out that the resources that had been accumulated earlier are rapidly diminishing, and the volume of backup autotransformers and key components is decreasing very quickly.

“The resources that were accumulated earlier are now being exhausted. The volumes of reserves of autotransformers and key equipment are declining dramatically and very quickly,” the expert noted.

Lack of Reserves in Distribution Networks

According to Kharchenko, there are virtually no reserves of equipment for distribution networks left, and previously there were already insufficient amounts. The situation is complicated by the fact that now “there are practically no reserves at all.”

The director of the Energy Research Center also emphasized that neither “Ukrenergo” nor generating or distribution companies have enough resources to purchase the equipment that is needed today and will be critically important in the coming months. “Ukrenergo” still has some resources left, but in other companies, the situation is approaching a point where, after several massive attacks, restoring damages will become impossible without external assistance.
