Ukrainian blogger Yana Metiolkina shared an ironic video on her Instagram, reinterpreting the famous series ‘Sex and the City’ through the lens of the realities of full-scale war in Ukraine. In this new take on the iconic story, the heroine, in the style of Carrie Bradshaw, shares her thoughts on love, dating, and the challenges of wartime.

Reinterpreting the Series in Wartime Realities
In the parody video, captioned ‘What if Carrie Bradshaw Lived in Ukraine?’, Yana Metiolkina skillfully combines a romantic mood with the contemporary challenges of life during war. The main character states:
“He was like an air raid siren: he appeared unexpectedly and ruined all my plans.”
According to the plot, she falls in love instantly, as the man could order a taxi even at 11:45 PM — against the backdrop of curfew restrictions, this seems like a true feat.
Irony and a New Romance for Ukrainians
The couple spends time together: dancing at Kurazh, savoring filter coffee at ‘Kashтан’, and strolling down Reitarska, attracting the attention of those around them. However, the romantic storyline unexpectedly breaks — one evening the hero cannot call a taxi, and the reason turns out to be mundane: a failed shawarma. Against this backdrop, the heroine ponders whether such ordinariness — with expensive candles burning down and the hours counting down to the end of the curfew — has become the new romance for Ukrainians in wartime.
