Gradual Integration of the Ukrainian Agricultural Sector into EU Policy
During the negotiations, the parties agreed to enhance institutional cooperation between Ukraine and the European Commission. It was decided to develop a model for the gradual and phased integration of Ukraine into the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). Participants emphasized that Ukrainian producers are already meeting a significant portion of European food safety standards.
“The next step is the integration of the agricultural sector into the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy. This will enhance the competitiveness of Ukrainian farmers in the European market and strengthen food security in Europe.”
Changes in CAP and Prospects for Ukraine
The European Union aims to create a sustainable food system by integrating Ukraine into it. Our country remains one of the most important producers and global exporters of agricultural products. The integration of the Ukrainian agricultural sector into EU policy will not only increase competition but also strengthen food security across the entire European space.
At the same time, the EU Council and the European Parliament reached a preliminary agreement on simplifying the Common Agricultural Policy. The innovations are aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of farmers in EU countries, reducing administrative pressure, and streamlining procedures. It is expected that annual administrative costs for farmers will decrease by 1.6 billion euros, while EU member state governments will save an additional 200 million euros per year.
