Ukraine’s Grain Exports Decreased by Over 9 Million Tons: Farmers Need Support

Since the beginning of the 2024-2025 marketing year (July-June), Ukraine has exported 40.04 million tons of grains and legumes. Since the beginning of June, 1.668 million tons have been shipped. In comparison, as of June 21 of the previous year, this figure was 49.54 million tons, and in June 2024 – 2.608 million tons. Thus, exports have decreased by more than 9 million tons year-on-year.

Impact of Adverse Weather Conditions and Restrictions

Agricultural producers in Mykolaiv, Odesa, and Kherson regions have already begun harvesting early grains and legumes. A total of 34,800 tons of the new harvest has been collected from an area of 14,200 hectares, which is 28% less compared to the same period last year. At the same time, farmers are facing significant losses due to an abnormal drought, spring frosts, and export restrictions from the European Union. In the Kherson region, over 55,000 hectares of crops have been lost due to natural disasters.

Farmers’ Appeal and Government Support

More than twenty leading agricultural associations have appealed to the government, urging support for the sector in light of the critical situation in agriculture. Among the proposed measures is the implementation of a direct state subsidy mechanism for one hectare of lost crops and the allocation of funds in the state budget for 2026 to launch a program for insuring agricultural crops and perennial plantings.

“Farmers are asking for the implementation of a direct state subsidy mechanism for one hectare of lost crops and for funds to be allocated in the state budget for 2026 to launch a program for insuring agricultural crops and perennial plantings.”

In 2025, 10.9 billion UAH of state aid will be directed to support farmers, which is significantly more than last year (7.075 billion UAH).
