Connecting Regions to the European Railway Network
Minister of Development Oleksiy Kuleba reported that the gradual integration of Ukrainian regions into the European railway network is outlined in the country’s Recovery Strategy. This process is fully aligned with the creation of the trans-European transport corridors TEN-T, aimed at ensuring effective connectivity between Ukraine and EU markets and ports.
“The next major step is the euro-gauge railway from the Polish border to Lviv. This will make Lviv a transport hub at the intersection of the EU and Ukraine,” said Kuleba.
Expansion of Railway Routes and New Logistics Opportunities
According to government plans, new sections of euro-gauge railway will appear in Transcarpathia and Volyn. This will enable the launch of new railway routes with the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Poland, as well as the creation of a new freight corridor that will connect Ukraine’s industrial centers with European ports and markets. Such a step will be an important phase in integrating the Ukrainian transport system into European infrastructure.
In addition, Oleksiy Kuleba held talks with Magda Kopczyńska, the Director for Transport at the European Commission, regarding further integration of Ukraine into the EU’s common transport space. During the meeting, issues related to signing an agreement on road transport, the development of Ukrainian Danube ports, and the adaptation of Ukraine’s transport legislation to EU standards were discussed.
