Ukraine and Bosnia and Herzegovina to introduce visa-free transport for freight transport

Ukraine and Bosnia and Herzegovina have reached an important agreement to simplify freight road transport between the countries. During negotiations in Sarajevo, representatives of both states agreed to introduce a regime of free freight transport, which is expected to significantly expand opportunities for international logistics and ease the work of road carriers.

Free transport without permits starts from 2027

According to the agreements reached during the first meeting of the joint commission on international road transport, starting from January 1, 2027, Ukrainian and Bosnian transport companies will be able to carry out freight transport between the countries without the need to obtain special permits. The new regime will apply to both bilateral routes and transit transport through the territory of both countries.

“The agreement stipulates that from January 1, 2027, Ukrainian and Bosnian companies will be able to carry out freight transport without special permits. This applies to both bilateral routes and transit through the territory of both states.”

Temporary increase in quotas for businesses until the end of 2026

Until the full liberalization of transport services, both parties have agreed to a temporary expansion of quotas for permits for freight trips — these changes will be in effect until the end of 2026. This step is intended to help Ukrainian and Bosnian businesses avoid logistical restrictions and ensure stable planning of international transport. The Ministry of Development notes that the new rules will contribute to reducing the bureaucratic burden on carriers and speeding up the movement of goods across borders.

Trade volumes between Ukraine and Bosnia and Herzegovina have increased several times over the past decade. It is expected that the simplification of transport procedures will further stimulate economic cooperation and exports.

Previously, Ukrainian transport companies gained the opportunity to operate in a new promising direction after the ratification by the Verkhovna Rada of the Agreement with the Kingdom of Morocco on international road transport.
